This week, the Varsity Girls Basketball team played against the Straughn High School Tigers. The game was on Thursday, November 11th, and took place in the FHS Gymnasium at 5PM.

Coach Kemp and FHS Varsity Basketball player Kaylie Davenport were asked several questions a few days prior to game day.

Interview with Coach Kemp

“How are the coaches and team more prepared this season than they were last season?”

Coach Kemp: “We have had a really good summer. We have added some new things offensively and defensively that are going to make us sound. The girls have been putting in hard work and have very good attitudes and outlooks for the coming up year.”

“What is your prediction for this new season?”

Coach Kemp: “I think we will have a really good season. We plan to be competitive in the area tournament and we are looking forward to moving closer toward the playoffs.

“What do you expect out of your players after and during the season?”

Coach Kemp: “I am expecting the players to grow individually. I expect seniors to step up as leaders and even some of the younger ones to play a bigger role than they did last year.”

Kaylie was asked about how she views this current basketball season and this was her response:

“We are definitely more prepared because we are more familiar with each other and think alike. We have played with each other long enough that we have figured out how each other play. We also discovered our strengths and weaknesses. We have worked on our weak spots to make them stronger. I can definitely say we are more determined this year.”

Unfortunately, the Tigers declared victory over the Hurricanes for the first game of the Hurricane season. Both teams played very well and it was a very remarkable night. The final score of the game was FHS 35 – SHS 52.

The next varsity girls basketball game will be a Thanksgiving tournament on November 25th and 26th in the Straughn High School Gymnasium.
