On December 6, 2018, the Flomaton Hurricanes beat the Piedmont Bulldogs to pull off their first football state championship win. This was their first trip to the state championships in 94 years, since the school opened in 1925. The Hurricanes played for the Class 3A title at the Jordan Hare Stadium in Auburn, Alabama.

The Hurricanes defeated Piedmont who had returned to the state championships after previously winning two state championships in 3 years. Led by quarterback and MVP Daquan Johnson, the Hurricanes walked away with a 23-12 victory. This event will forever go down in history to show what a small community and town family can accomplish.
