Volleyball season is right upon us. Our team has been working extremely hard over the summer and going into this school year.

For the past few years, the varsity team has ranged from 7th graders to 12th graders. The coaches have been training the team to work as a unit and become successful. “This year I have a positive outlook and I expect great things from this team,” states varsity head coach Mrs. Jacqi Hammond. Sometimes having a young team is good for learning experiences.

This year, the players are very excited for volleyball season. “We’ve been playing for three years together on varsity,” says Lady Canes setter Avery Vickery.  The team has been working very hard by participating in summer tournaments, learning from their mistakes, and improving their technique. Canes Varsity Libero Raylin Wesley claims “Practice is very hard after a loss, we run A LOT and do drills that help us improve on things that we messed up on a game.”

This year’s varsity team includes the following students: 9th graders Baleigh Johnson and Jalia Lassiter; 10th graders Kaylie Davenport, Jessie Marion and Sydney Lisenby; 11th graders Avery Vickery, Trinidy White, Malin White, Nealy Wiggins, Grace Morgan and Raylin Wesley; and senior Allison Johnson. Make sure to come out and support Flomaton High School’s Lady Canes on Thursday, August 30th for their first game against Jay in Flomaton High’s gym.
