On Thursday, February 13th, the Miss Hurricane “Womanless” Beauty Pageant will be held in the FHS Auditorium at 7PM. This year, 2019-2020 Miss FHS Karli Alaniz will host the pageant. The cost of admission to the pageant is expected to be $5 per person.

The pageant theme is focused on the 1980’s this year with all ticket sales going to the animal rescue organization, Paws Crossed Dog Rescue, Inc.

According to the organization’s website, the mission of the animal rescue is to “rescue forgotten, abused, and abandoned pets primarily found in the the local area as strays or in local animal shelters euthanasia lists.” They provide medical care, spay/neutering, shelter, nutrition, and grooming to all dogs that they rescue (Paws Crossed).

During the pageant, each contestant will compete in several portions: their introduction, physical fitness, talent, poise and appearance, as well as their responses to questions. Judges will determine the winners of each category and a new Miss Hurricane will be crowned.

Last year, 2019 FHS graduate Micah Boyette, with the stage name “Marissa Boynett”, was crowned the winner of the pageant by the previous year’s Miss Hurricane, Logan Hanks. He performed his talent first which was a dance routine to “Milkshake” by Kelis with contestant #8, Bailey Bass (“Baddie Bass”).

Entertainment segments will be performed during the pageant while the contestants prepare for the next section. A brief intermission will be held after the main pageant portion to allow for the judges to deliberate the winners. During the intermission, the crowd is encouraged to vote for the crowd favorite by giving a monetary donation in the lobby towards a contestant.

The pageant is an interesting event that allows students to raise money for a good cause as well as a good source of entertainment for members of the community to enjoy.

Update [02/06/2020]: The pageant has been postponed from Tuesday, February 11th to Thursday, February 13th and the article has been updated to reflect the new date.
