This year, we have new teachers to come to our school. I’ve had the opportunity to interview two of them to get to know more about their lives. This is what I’ve discovered about two of our new teachers.

 

Ms. Chance

 

What subject are you currently teaching?

9th Grade (World History), 10th Grade (U.S. History – Part I), 11th Grade (U.S. History – Part II).

Where have you taught before coming to FHS?

12 Years @ ECHS (Escambia County High School)

What college(s) did you attend?

Bachelor’s Degree – University of West Florida, Master’s Degree – University of West Alabama.

How has your experience been teaching at FHS?

My experience has been GREAT.

What was your favorite subject in high school?

Math and now I teach History.

What did you want to be when you were a teenager?

Not a TEACHER!

What’s your favorite type of music?

I like all music types.

What’s your favorite animal?

All God’s Creatures.

What do you like most about being a teacher?

I love children. Children make me happy and keep me young.

 

Mr. Atchinson

 

What subject are you currently teaching?

I’m teaching band for 5th grade through 12th, as well as Guitar and Jazz Band.

Where have you taught before coming to FHS?

I previously taught at Highland Home School in Crenshaw County and did student teaching in Mobile County.

What college(s) did you attend?

I attended Troy University and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education.

How has your experience been teaching at FHS?

I’ve had a great time teaching in Flomaton this year. The band has been awesome and the people in the community are some of the most welcoming I have seen.

What was your favorite subject in high school?

Naturally, my favorite subject in high school was Band, but if I had to pick another one, I always enjoyed math classes as well.

What did you want to be when you were a teenager?

When I was a teenager, I didn’t have any idea what I wanted to be, but I am sure glad I landed where I did.

What’s your favorite type of music?

I have so many favorite kinds of music, I couldn’t pick one, but lately I’ve been into 70’s rock.

What’s your favorite animal?

Favorite animal? I guess I’d go with penguins. They just look like such sharp dressers.

What do you like most about being a teacher?

I think every teacher would agree that the best thing about our job is getting to work with the students… most of the time. Being able to continue something that I’ve loved being involved with since I was a high schooler myself is a nice perk, too.
