Unclaimed Jackpot

In late October, a $1.5 billion winning lottery ticket was sold. Since then no one has come forward to claim the prize. The winner has 180 days or until April to collect the ticket. The winning ticket was sold in Simpsonville, South Carolina at a KC Mart. In the state of South Carolina winners are allowed to remain anonymous, which is what most financial advisors recommend. Currently there is still a little over a month left to claim the ticket. If the money goes unclaimed, each state participating in the Mega Millions game will get back the money they contributed. It is estimated that the state of South Carolina will lose $60 million in taxes from the prize.
